Setting up OpenVPN on GNU/Linux - Unity edition

We recommend that you use our in-house developed VPN client which has config integration and is extremely simple to use. You can find it here.

Before you start with our guide, please download an configuration file.

Installation

  1. Install OpenVPN with Network Manager plugin as follows from terminal:

    apt update && apt install network-manager-openvpn network-manager-openvpn-gnome openvpn
  2. From the Gnome Menu, open the Network Manager menu and select VPN Connections and choose Configure VPN.

  3. From the Network Connections box, Click Add to select "Import saved VPN configuration...." from dropdown menu that appears next and click "Create..."

  4. Select the .ovpn file for the VPN gateway you want to import.

  5. Once imported, an edit Dialog box will appear, where all you have to do is input your username and password and click Save.

  6. Finally, in order to connect all you have to do is enter Network Manager from Gnome bar again and click on VPN connections and select the particular VPN gateway you have already configured and want to use at the moment. Upon successful VPN connection you get a notification. Enjoy your encrypted Internet now!
